Hannover - Germany

Welcome to Hannover!

Literacy course for labour immigrants from Bulgaria.

There are about 6000 Bulgarians living in Hannover. As European citizens they have come to work and live in Germany. A considerable percentage of them have very low levels of literacy, in addition to lacking command of German language. VHS Hannover tried to find a way to offer literacy training for them taking into account their special needs in terms of time, place, and social setup. This was eventually achieved through a cooperation with a local NGO with good contacts into the Bulgarian community in Hannover, and through a teacher with similarly good connections. These elements were crucial for the success of the project, as they ensured trust.

Introtext Deutsch:

In Hannover leben etwa 6000 Bulgar*innen.
