Vienna (Austria)
Show Me Your Neighbourhood!
Every year Vienna is growing bigger by 30 000 new inhabitants from all over the world. Some of them arrive with low levels of literacy or other deficits in basic skills necessary for living in a modern society. In an experimental course for the MobileBE project, we offer an introduction to the city intertwined with training in basic skills such as ICT, calculation, and German language (L2). This is based on the idea that basic education is more than reading and writing. Rather, we see it as wide spectrum of competences to help the individual to adequately participate in society. We offered this in form of evening classes once a week plus weekend classes, and excursions. We ran this course three times, each time with improvements to how the course was set up.
